In a nutshell... [Oct. 19th, 2008|12:18 pm]

Lots been going on in life lately. I'll probably post some pictures to MySpace over the next few days, but for the time being, a quick rundown will have to do.

First, moving! I left the apartment at Christina Mill at the end of August. I loved that complex but the rent there was getting ridiculous. I moved into a new apartment in Elkton, MD with two friends, Heather and Nancy. We all pretty much do our own thing and have fairly different schedules, so we've only had a couple of minor gripes to each other, mostly about climate control. This place has two bedrooms on the first floor and a lofted bedroom on the second floor. I'm up in the lofted bedroom, and it gets pretty hot up there during the day.

Second, late-summer vacation. I went down to Cape May in mid-September. First time I've been down there in about four years. It was very beautiful as always, but a bit windier and colder. The water temperature was wonderful, though. :) It was weird to be there after the summer season; the town was much quieter and when I went for my morning walks I saw very few other people up that early.

Third, new job. After a year and a half of working for UD's Development office, I was asked in late August to take a position with Network and Systems Services, the same place I worked as a student. I interviewed for a position there in March of this year and was surprised to find that I was second choice behind a guy who had ten years' experience in networking. I also found out that they wanted to hire both of us at the time but could only spare the money for one. When they got the go-ahead to hire a few new people this summer, they brought Dave over from User Services, who's an awesome guy, and me. So, now I'm working as a systems programmer with furrybluetroll and a lot of other great people. I'm very happy with it so far. It was a sad thing to leave Development as there are a lot of people there I loved working with, but the options for advancement there weren't as wide as they are at NSS, plus I'm doing what I really want to do now, so I'm sure it was the right decision.

So, upheaval all over the place, and while I've been stressed, it hasn't been too bad. No massive anxiety attacks, which is good, although I'm still on my meds for those, so that may explain it. My girlfriend has been a wonderful constant through all this and she's handled my stress and grumpiness very well. :) She's also dealing with me trying to quit smoking again, so I'm sure I'm not at my best.

Think that's all for now. Could be another couple of months before another update; I don't visit LJ nearly as much as I used to.

Small update... [May. 24th, 2008|09:20 pm]

Haven't posted on here in ages, so figured it was about time again. Just a few quick updates.

First, mother is doing well. Thank you to all who asked. She'll be done her treatments in mid-July. After that, we watch carefully. *worried*

Secondly, lots of upheaval in the job area. Could possibly be taking a new position back at Network & System Services where I used to work as a student. Waiting to hear if I got that yet. Also had lunch with the current boss on Thursday and was told as of July 1 I'll be getting a salary increase of $6500 a year, paid retro-actively from the time I started 'til now. w00t! Apparently performance appraisal was better than I thought.

Thirdly, I've noticed that I really haven't been reading LJ a lot lately, and I've been posting on it even less. It was a wonderful sounding board back when I was going through the worst of the Rocky drama a couple of years ago, and every once in a while it's nice to vent, but I find I've been doing that on a more private scale lately. Rather than bitching about everything to everyone, I've been sorta quietly letting off steam to a few very nice people who don't mind listening every now and again. Reading back over some of my past entries made me feel like the worst kind of attention whore. I don't think I ever want to go back to that. So, with that said, I probably won't post on my journal again unless really big things are happening, like the possible job change etc. I've had this journal since August of 2001; that's almost seven years. It's time to close the book.

Good stuff tomorrow: Doke's Memorial's Eve party. Jell-O wrestling this year. :D

First, quick weekend update. Rocky was ok, audience wasn't great but at least there were a good few virgins. Fun impromptu party at Becky's on Friday night and then a soak in Liz's hottub. Sunday, picture-taking with Rachel and hanging out with her, Faye and SteveO. Good times. :)

Probably the best two pictures from the shoot here...Collapse )

The last four shoots I've done have really got me motivated to start working on a new photography portfolio. I haven't had one in years and my style has definitely changed(and hopefully improved!), a lot since then. I'm getting more artsy in my pictures while still trying to maintain the themes and sexiness. The shoot next weekend with Miss Aimee is definitely going to test my lighting skills. XD I'm very proud of the shoot from yesterday though, and the gogo boots shoot w/ Aimee and Steph(see their MySpaces and Facebooks). Woot to pictures.

Motivation... [Feb. 27th, 2008|10:22 pm]

Motivation is coming back, which is odd considering I feel like I've been on the rack getting stretched for the past three days. :P I've finally started working out again and got back in contact with my old krav maga trainer. I'm going to be starting that up again in a couple of weeks. Very excited. Haven't done any close-combat training in YEARS. :D Now all I've gotta do is start the swimming again.

This week has been a whirlwind so far: Monday I had work and zipping up to Wilmington to see Be Kind, Rewind with Aimee, Steph, Andy, Becky and Katelyn. Yesterday had work with a lot of meetings and then a combo of going to Tuesday night karaoke at MVP and DFN at Doke's. Tonight's the first time I've had to sit down and rest for a while. It's been a good week thus far though. I like keeping busy.

This is all getting a bit ridiculous... [Feb. 25th, 2008|08:57 am]

So it happened AGAIN today while I was just about to leave for work. A lot of rattling around in my ceiling and chirping. So I decided I didn't want to leave while what I assumed to be a sparrow was stuck up in the extraction pipe, but on the other hand I didn't want to be late. So, a very evil idea took hold of me and I decided I was going to help that bird get motivated to shift itself, goddamnit. I went over to my dryer and set the dial on the last half-minute of the de-wrinkle cycle, producing several short blasts of hot air through the extraction vent. I heard a squawk from my ceiling and then a lot more rattling and all was finally silence. When I walked outside to get into my car, I looked up at my balcony and lo and behold, there was a fatass blackbird staring down at me looking like it had been fired out of a cannon, with this really ticked-off expression on its face. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

And so the Battle of the Birds continues. *raises fist*

Birds: nothin'

One o' them Sundays... [Feb. 24th, 2008|05:24 pm]

Got back from Rocky a little earlier than usual, then proceeded to chat online with folks until 6am. Passed out a little while after that and woke up an hour and a half later to a very odd noise coming from my ceiling. Sounded like a rattling/scratching/some crazy critter in the pipes. It went on for about half an hour, at which point I was about ready to fumble in the closet for the gun and start shooting at my ceiling randomly. Suddenly it stopped and I happened to glance out my bedroom window at my balcony. The extraction vent for my dryer comes out just above my balcony door, and what comes popping out of it? A big fat sparrow. Poor thing musta been stuck in there for a while. Least it escaped. As peace returned to my bedroom, I passed out again. Woke up again around 3pm.

I've no motivation to do anything today, so I'm staying in, I've decided. Prolly go to the store after work tomorrow night. At least I got the Rocky pics from last night done: They're here.

Almost done the latest song, which is sorta neat. Might post the lyrics sometime this week. Just need to get a basic recording down. If I ever wind up in a band again, might be able to put it to a full arrangement.

It's a fire night tonight.

Well, was finally able to get up and get a shower this afternoon after three days of cough, fever, congestion, retching and diarrhea. This is the sickest I've been in probably four years. Started on Monday morning which I thought was just a bad cough, but by Monday at midnight it had turned into full-blown flu. *sigh* Only two weeks after I had that really bad cold too, and I HATE being sick. *grumps*

Anyway, rant over. Still feeling kinda crappy but hopefully I'll be well enough to get back to work tomorrow.

*EDIT*: Right after I finished posting this they showed the Sports Illustrated swimsuit models ringing the closing bell on Wall Street. Lemme just say...eww. I swear there was only one woman in that group who weighed over 105 pounds and almost all of the women were over 5'10". 'Skinny as a rail' is not an art-form. :(

First, the bad news: RIP to Roy Schieder. Thank you for 'The French Connection', 'Jaws', 'SeaQuest' and your cameo role in 'The Rainmaker.' :(

And the good: Awesome photoshoot with Steph and Aimee yesterday afternoon, then tasty food at TGIF. More to come later. Look at Steph and Aimee's MySpaces for pictures.
